Canvas of Courage
Art as Memory, Resistance, and Healing
As we celebrate the 2025 UK/Kenya Season of Culture, this is more than a cultural event — it’s a timely gathering rooted in reflection, truth-telling, and imagination. Supported by the British Council and The Africa Centre, this event creates space to explore the stories that shaped us, the histories we’ve inherited, and the creative tools we now hold to reshape them.
The panel discussions — from Canvas of Courage to Daughters of Freedom, Home and Away and Purpose-Led Partnerships — are designed to confront colonial legacies, honour untold histories, and spotlight the power of art, memory, and community in shaping a more just future.
For African communities and young people especially, these conversations are essential. They offer a mirror, a bridge, and a blueprint — affirming that storytelling is not just remembrance, but resistance and renewal.
This is also our Pre-London showcase — a chance to reflect on the journey of Echoes of Freedom so far and share what’s ahead for our Richmond Park exhibition and the conversations we hope to spark in the UK this Madaraka Weekend.
Together, we’re not just remembering history. We’re rewriting our place in it.
